There are Two road routes from Mysore to Ooty. The first route from Mysore is via Gundalpet, Theppakadu, and Masinagudi. This route is also known as the Kallatti route. It has 36 hairpin bends, so the drive can be very difficult. The other route is via Gundalpet, Theppakadu, and Gudalur. Government and private buses go by this route. One thing you should note is that the road route between Mysore and Ooty may be closed during nights as it passes through reserved forest area. So, is best to plan your road trip during the day. Bus Travel

There are plenty of buses plying between Ooty and Mysore. Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation and Karnataka State Transport Corporation run busses between Mysore and Ooty. The average travel time from Mysore to Ooty is 5 hours by bus. Mysore to Ooty bus timings are very frequent. KSRTC buses from Bangalore stop in Mysore before proceeding toward Ooty. The first bus starts at 6.00 am and the last bus from Mysore is just before midnight.

Mysore to Ooty by Cab

You can also take a taxi from Mysore to Ooty. The travel time is around 3 to 5 hours depending on the road route that you are planning to take. Mysore to Ooty taxi fare is usually calculated based on kilometers and type of vehicle. As half the route goes up the mountains, the taxi drivers may have a higher fare per kilometer than what is usually charged. 

 

Mysore to Ooty by Private Vehicle

If you have your own vehicle, you can comfortably reach Ooty from Mysore in three to four hours. Preferably, start early, so you can catch sight of wild animals as you cross the reserved forest area. You can also plan to stop in Bandipur or Mudumalai for a safari either on your way to Ooty or back to Mysore. However, you need to note that you should not stop the vehicle anywhere in the forest area, expect near the forest office where the safaris start.
